The People of Egypt was launched in 2016 as an artistic approach to celebrating the diversity of the people living in Egypt. This page is dedicated to culture and people lovers alike, along with a place people can come to learn about Egyptian culture both modern and traditional. It is a place people can share their stories, enjoy the stories of others, and offer their own input from personal experiences.
If you love culture, people, exceptional stories, travel photography, and recipes you'll feel right at home here! The People of Egypt will offer travel advice, restaurant reviews, inspirational stories, and humor. And since I love to cook, and have a love for Egyptian food, you'll find plenty of Egyptian recipes here too.
My name is Stephanie, aka Gamila, and I am a photojournalist, professional photographer, and communications student. I love people and I love diversity. I also love to listen and share people's individual stories. I have been living in Egypt since 2013 with my Egyptian husband.
I was born and raised in a small Northeastern Wisconsin town with very little diversity. I think my fascination with diversity first came about when I took an Arabic course in college. I found that there were so many other people in this world and more ways of thinking than I could ever imagine.
When I moved to Egypt to marry my husband I fell in love with a people and a way of life much different than that at home. I fell in love with traditions that weren't my own and I fell in love with the diverse people that make Egypt the place it is.
The People of Egypt has no race, ethnicity, social class, or religion but covers the stories of anyone without prejudice. Egypt is full of diversity and it is this diversity that makes it so special. Originally inspired by the Humans of New York, The People of Egypt focuses on the diversity that makes Egypt great, the history of Egypt, and everything in between.
